Review: 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution iX (Modified)

Introduction

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has been a favorite among car enthusiasts for decades, and for good reason. With its sleek design, exceptional performance, and cutting-edge technology, the Evo has earned its place in the pantheon of high-performance vehicles. For me, the Evo was always a dream car, and I was thrilled when I finally acquired my own Evo after dreaming of it since I was a young child. In this blog post, I’ll take you through the journey of building and driving my dream car, including the ups and downs along the way.

The Build

Building a high-performance car from scratch is no easy feat, and it requires a deep understanding of engineering principles and automotive technology. Fortunately, I had the help of some talented mechanics and experts who guided me through the process.

The heart of my Evo 9 build is the engine, which features several high-performance parts. The ACL Race rod bearings and ACL Race main bearings provide exceptional durability and wear resistance, while the ARP main bolts add additional strength and stability to the engine block. The 156mm Manley TT rods and CP pistons work together to increase the engine’s ability to handle high torque, improving its power output capabilties.

The top end of the engine is where things really get interesting. The GSC S3 cams provide exceptional valve lift and duration, allowing the engine to breathe more efficiently and Rev up to 8500 RPM (Although this was limited in order to increase longevity). The Supertech valves, springs, and retainers provide additional support and durability, ensuring that the engine can withstand the high-stress conditions of high-performance driving.

To get the most out of this engine build, I turned to Sheepey Race for their turbo kit, which features a Precision 6466 turbo. This kit is designed to provide exceptional power and performance while maintaining reliability and drivability. With the kit installed, my Evo 9 is capable of generating an impressive 508 wheel horsepower and 370 foot pound of torque at the wheels.

The Challenges

Building a high-performance car is never easy, and my journey with my Evo 9 was no exception. One of the biggest challenges I faced was fueling issues that caused the engine to melt pistons several times. It was a frustrating and time consuming setback, but thanks to the support and expertise of Kevin at Evolution Dynamics in Lewisville Texas, the engine was covered under warranty and repaired at no cost.

In addition to the fueling issues, I also faced challenges with the car’s drivability and stability. The high-performance components and modifications made the car absolutely require upgrades brakes and suspension in order to increase control and handling, especially at high speeds. It took some time and adjustments to get the car dialed in and to feel confident behind the wheel.

The Joy of Driving

Despite the challenges and setbacks, driving my Evo 9 is an absolute joy. It’s a car that demands attention and respect on the road, with its sleek design and aggressive styling. And when you press the pedal to the floor, it unleashes a roar of power and acceleration that is nothing short of exhilarating.

But the joy of driving my Evo 9 goes beyond just the performance. It’s also a car that provides a unique and immersive driving experience. The suspension and handling are finely tuned, allowing for precise control and feedback. The interior is comfortable and spacious, with supportive seats and advanced technology that enhances the driving experience.

Conclusion

Building and driving a high-performance car like my 2006 Mitsubishi Evo 9 is a journey that requires dedication, expertise, and a deep passion for automotive technology. While there were certainly challenges along the way, the end result is a car that I am truly proud of. It’s a vehicle that combines exceptional engineering and performance with a unique design aesthetic that has helped it achieve cult status among car enthusiasts. And despite the setbacks and obstacles, driving my Evo 9 is a truly exhilarating experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
